What is Dutch Testing?
Dutch testing refers to a type of hormone test called DUTCH (Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones). It's a non-invasive test using dried urine samples that measures hormone levels and imbalances, including cortisol, estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone.
What does this test involve?
It’s easy! The kit contains paper strips that you dip in your urine at specific times over 24 hours. When the strips are dry, you mail them off in the enclosed envelope. In about two weeks, you’ll receive a 16-page report.
How much does Dutch testing cost, and does insurance cover it?
Insurance does not cover this test at this time because it is “investigative.” Insurance may cover hormone blood tests, and these are useful as well. However, blood does not measure hormone metabolism, free cortisol, or melatonin, among other markers on the Dutch test. Urine metabolites give unique information that a blood test does not provide. In our clinic, we often use both.
Is Dutch testing painful?
No, Dutch testing is not painful. This non-invasive test involves collecting dried urine samples over a specific period. The collection process typically involves urinating into a container provided by the testing laboratory and then transferring the urine onto specialized filter paper for drying.
How long does it take to receive the results of a Dutch test?
The turnaround time for receiving results from Dutch testing can vary depending on the specific laboratory conducting the test. Generally, it takes about one to two weeks to receive the results. However, depending on the lab's processing time and any additional factors that may affect the analysis, it could be shorter or longer.
